Handing over a file version with proof of delivery

Why

When you need to hand a file from the backup over to someone and have proof of delivery: the recipient confirms receipt with their own key, and the moment of delivery goes into the Sigelith public log. The handover itself is done by Sigelith Desktop (the Sigelith Handover window). Sigelith Backup saves the chosen version of the file from the backup and opens that window with it.

Before you start

  • This computer needs Sigelith Desktop version 3.0.1 or newer.
  • An encrypted backup: have the backup password ready.

Step by step

  1. In the menu on the left, click “Browse”, choose the backup folder and click “Open”.
  2. In the field above the list, choose the backup version, and then select the file. “File history” shows in which versions the file changed.
  3. Click “Hand over…”.
  4. Choose where to save the file to hand over and click “Save”.
  5. Sigelith Handover opens with this file. Choose the recipient and follow Sigelith Desktop.

What you should see

Below the file list: “Opening Sigelith Handover with …”, and on the screen the Sigelith Desktop sending window.

What next

Sigelith Desktop shows the state of the handover and the confirmation of receipt.

If something goes wrong

  • The program asks whether to open the program's page: Sigelith Desktop is not on the computer, or its version is older than 3.0.1. Click “Yes”, install or update Sigelith Desktop and try again.
  • Only “Saved: …” appears: the file is saved, but the sending window did not open. Open Sigelith Desktop and send this file from the Sigelith Handover window.
