Starting the program at sign-in
Why
Scheduled backups run only while the program is running. Starting at sign-in launches it in the background every time you sign in to Windows, so due times are not missed after the computer restarts.
Before you start
With the first schedule, the program turns on starting at sign-in by itself (see “Setting up automatic backups”).
Step by step
- In the menu on the left, click “Settings”.
- In the “Scheduled backups and running in the background” box, tick “Start the program in the background when I sign in to Windows”. Clearing the box turns starting at sign-in off.
In the same box:
- “Keep running by the clock after the window is closed, when backups are scheduled”: closing the window hides the program by the clock instead of quitting it. Ticked by default.
- “Pause scheduled backups”: the schedule does not start backups until you clear this box. Backups started manually still work. The same option is in the menu of the icon by the clock.
What you should see
After you sign in to Windows, the program starts without a window: you see only the icon by the clock (see “The program window and the icon by the clock”). You open the window with the icon or from the Start menu.
What next
- The program runs only while the account is signed in. While it is signed out, scheduled backups do not start.
- “Quit” in the menu of the icon by the clock closes the program completely. Scheduled backups start again after the next sign-in or after the program is started.
If something goes wrong
- The “Start at sign-in” window: starting the program at sign-in was turned off in Windows Settings. You can turn it on only there: “Settings → Apps → Startup → Sigelith Backup”.
- “Start at sign-in could not be changed”: the details are in the log (see “Where to find details: the program log”).
