Deleting remembered passwords
Why
Passwords remembered in Windows Credential Manager stay there even after the program is uninstalled. Delete them before uninstalling, before passing the computer on, or when the backup password should be entered every time.
Before you start
- The program deletes all the passwords it has remembered: backup passwords and the access details of off-site backups (the secret key and the encryption password).
- Scheduled backups of encrypted templates and off-site backups will not start until you remember the passwords again. Make sure you have them written down somewhere else.
Step by step
- In the menu on the left, click “Settings”.
- In the “Environment” box, click “Delete remembered passwords…”.
- Read the question and click “Yes”.
What you should see
In the status bar: “Remembered passwords deleted: …” with their number. For encrypted templates, the program will ask for the password every time a backup runs.
What next
- You delete the password of a single template by clearing “Remember the password in Windows Credential Manager” and saving the template again (see “Saving settings as a template”). Deleting a template also deletes its passwords.
- You remember the backup password again as in “Encrypting a backup”, the “Password for scheduled backups” part. Save the off-site backup details again in the “Off-site backup…” window (see “Setting up an off-site backup”).
If something goes wrong
- “Remembered passwords deleted: 0.”: the program had no remembered passwords.
- A notification that the backup did not start because the password is not remembered: this is the result of deleting the passwords. Remember the password again (see “Encrypting a backup”).
